I am not a musician but I do like to record live sound and do a little mixing to produce backing tracks for videos.
The in-built mic (mono) recording facility on this little unit is surprisingly good and I've seldom had need to use an external microphone although there are 3.5mm and 6.35mm input jack sockets.
The only downsides for me are that it isn't possible to record two tracks simultaneously and the menus are far from intuitive which means having to resort to reading the detailed instruction book until you're used to it.
The unit itself is small, lightweight, highly-portable and flexible enough to lend itself to any small recording project. I'm also very pleased that it uses readily-available AA batteries rather than a proprietary brand which run the risk of a power-loss when recording in a remote location.
Although the unit is targeted at musicians it is also good for use as a high-quality general sound recorder.

Being a time pressured muso, I bought this a couple of months ago and have not been disappointed. Most amatuer musicians would find benefit from using this device which is simple to use, but sophisticated enough to produce remarkably professional results (in minutes). Pete Waterman must be shaking in his shoes!
